There are many ways to rejuvenate your skin and get a healthy, beautiful glow. Here is more information on two of the most popular treatments – microdermabrasion and chemical peels – and how they work differently to remove dead skin cells and reveal a new glow.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion addresses several skincare concerns, including fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, blackheads, acne and acne scars, large pores, darkened skin and stretch marks. The treatment consists of using a mildly abrasive instrument to gently “sand” your skin and remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells. It helps thicken collagen to help skin look taut and smooth.
The microdermabrasion procedure is less than an hour and there is no downtime or recovery period. You may need to use a special moisturizer after treatment to protect your skin and prolong your result. Results are long-lasting, and you can get treatments every two weeks or monthly for maintenance. Microdermabrasion can be combined with oxygen therapy to force nutrients into your skin to enhance new cell production.
Chemical Peels
Rather than using a tool to remove dead skin cells, a chemical peel uses a chemical solution that is carefully applied to the skin to improve the appearance of your skin. The solution removes the damaged outer layers to improve texture and tone and reveal a more youthful glow. A chemical peel is ideal for treating acne or acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, rough skin, sun-damaged skin and irregular skin pigmentation.
There are different levels of chemical peels, ranging from removing the outer layer of skin only down to the lower dermal layer of your skin. For light chemical peels, the treatment takes less than 30 minutes and you may notice some redness, stinging and flaking of the skin after treatment. For deeper peels, you will feel symptoms that are similar to a sunburn. You will see your skin improve in just one week. Depending on the peel type, you can return for more treatments to maintain your new glow.
