What can PRF do for you?

Portrait of beautiful woman in studio There is a simple solution to skin that is saggy and wrinkled – create new, youthful looking skin! You may think this is wishful thinking, but with PRF therapy it can actually be done. Read on for more information about PRF therapy and what it can do for you.

What is PRF therapy?

“PRF” stands for “platelet rich fibrin.” PRF has a very high concentration of white blood cells, fibrin, and some stem cells. This forms a “scaffold” that releases growth factors, which create new skin cells and collagen. Besides cosmetic uses, PRF therapy is also used to help people heal from injuries.

The procedure begins with a vial of your own blood being drawn. The blood is processed to separate the PRF from the rest of the blood, and then the PRF is injected into the problem area. Sometimes it is combined with dermal fillers for optimum effect.

PRF therapy is performed in a series of treatments, typically about 6 to 8 weeks apart. The results can vary, but some patients see improvements to their skin for up to a year. Because the PRF is taken from your own blood, adverse reactions are minimized – you don’t have to worry about having an allergic reaction. There may be some mild pain, minor bruising, and some swelling and soreness, but these reactions can be treated with some ice and a topical anesthetic. Most patients can have PRF therapy, unless you have a low number of platelets, abnormal platelets, or if you are taking anticlotting medication.

What can PRF be used to treat?

PRF can help to make skin look smooth and young. It can eliminate acne scars, minimize pores, reduce the appearance of blemishes, and can even help to restore hair. It can help to fill facial folds and wrinkles, improve skin tone and texture, and plump up the hollows under the eyes.
