What Is PRP Therapy?
In a PRP therapy procedure, your own cells are used to stimulate new tissue to grow. For cosmetic purposes, this can mean an increase in collagen production, which helps us to have beautiful skin. The same technique is also used for athletes when they have a sports injury, to help speed up healing time and reduce pain.
Why Try PRP?
After you hear the many benefits that come with PRP therapy, it might sound too good to be true:
- It is nonsurgical. A treatment includes having a small amount of blood drawn, which is placed into a centrifuge to separate out the blood from the concentrated platelets. The platelet-rich plasma is left, and this is injected into the areas where you would like to see changes to your skin.
- It can correct many issues. PRP therapy can be used to treat acne scars and reduce under-eye circles, fine lines and wrinkles, and areas of hyperpigmentation. It also improves the skin’s texture to give it a rejuvenated, younger look.
- It is safe. PRP therapy is considered to be very low risk, as the patient’s own blood is used. There may be some swelling, redness, and bruising at the injection site. There may be a bit of discomfort because of the injections, but a topical numbing agent can be applied before the treatment.
- It provides results for months. As the collagen remodeling begins, you’ll start to see better looking skin within a few weeks, and these improvements will continue for several months.
- It can be done with other treatments. Some patients may opt for a microneedling treatment along with PRP therapy, to increase the depth of the skin’s healing response.
