Maybe your eyebrow tattoos are fading, or maybe they just don’t look right. For whatever reason, are you regretting your eyebrow tattoos? You’ll be happy to know that you can have them removed!
How are eyebrow tattoos removed?
Eyebrow tattoos are removed just as regular tattoos are – with lasers. The laser delivers powerful, controlled bursts of energy to break up pigment that is beneath the skin. These broken up particles are, in time, absorbed by the body, and the eyebrow returns to its normal appearance. You can have all or part of your eyebrow tattoos removed.
It can take anywhere from 2 to 10 treatments for the tattoo to fully fade away, and treatments are usually scheduled 1 or 2 months apart. The number of treatments it takes depends on factors such as the depth of the tattoo pigment in the skin, the pigment color and density, and the patient’s skin type. Older and more complex tattoos will take longer to remove.
Having an eyebrow tattoo removed is not as painful as getting a tattoo, but it is a bit uncomfortable. Patients report it feels like a little snapping sensation or one of intense warmth. You will be given eyewear that will protect your eyes from the laser. The treatment typically takes less than 5 minutes.
Before the treatment, there will be specific instructions to follow to prepare your skin, such as to avoid the sun (and make sure to wear lots of sunscreen when you do have to go outside), drink lots of water, and avoid alcohol and drugs that thin the blood and increase bruising, such as ibuprofen. After the treatment, you might have some mild swelling and redness, and you may even have small blisters. Your provider may recommend that you apply antibiotic ointment to the area – make sure to follow any of their instructions carefully.
