What Is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an injectable that is made of poly-L-lactic acid microparticles. It is injected deep into the skin to stimulate the production of collagen, a protein that helps skin to look young, healthy, and smooth. It can help to reduce wrinkles and to restore volume to the face and even the buttocks.
You’ll see some change right away after your injections, but these initial results are only temporary – it will take about 6 weeks before you really start to see improvements. Results from a Sculptra injection can last for up to 2 years as the microparticles continue to encourage new collagen to be produced. This is one thing that sets Sculptra apart from other fillers – because new collagen grows, the results last longer than they do with fillers that just hydrate the skin. However, you should keep in mind that it will take three sessions over the course of 3 to 4 months to complete a Sculptra treatment.
Sculptra is safe and FDA-approved; it has been in use for over 20 years. It is biocompatible and biodegradable and is generally well-accepted by most patients. However, there are some possible minor side effects that can come with Sculptra, as with any dermal filler: itching, bruising, tenderness, swelling, and redness.
